Putting history and
the Bible together:
Revived Byzantine, not Italy.
Turkey the location of the "beast"

If you have not read the previous two sections, please do.  They include lots of references for what is said in this section.
When we take all that history offers about the Roman Empire and combine it with what the Bible says about that empire's revival, we get a detailed description of this future government.
The former Roman Empire was a Mediterranean empire; so it's revival will also be Mediterranean.  Daniel's prophecies (I discussed them in detail in an earlier chapter) talk about all of the successive Middle East governments until God rules.  Daniel did not describe the Chinese, Aztec's, or other famous Empires.  Why?  The Bible only talks about Israel or places in relation to Israel.  Daniel's prophecies were a list of successive governments in his part of the world.  Daniel was shown what would happen to his location, the Middle East.  Therefore, the part of the Roman Empire that would have concerned Daniel would have been the part that controlled the Middle East, the Byzantine side of the Empire.  This makes sense when we consider that the Byzantine part of the Empire was the most successful part, lasting a thousand years longer than the western side.  Therefore, the revived Empire will cover similar territory as Byzantine:  the Middle East, North Africa, and south-eastern Europe.  The following map shows only the Byzantine part of the Roman Empire with the western leg removed:

We can expect that the revived empire will cover similar territory.
These territories are confirmed by the Bible, since all of the regions that will be in this revived empire, as well as all of the described regions that will not be in it, are all in the Middle East, north Africa, or in south-eastern Europe!
According to the Bible, the revived government will be a fragile coalition of nations from these regions, and its leader will come from Turkey.  This makes sense when we consider that the capital of the Roman Empire was Constantinople, in modern day Turkey, where the city of Istanbul is currently located.
Turkey being the head of this evil empire also matches other parts of the Bible.  For example, the Book of Revelation says that the seat of Satan is in Pergamum, which is in Turkey:

To the angel of the church in Pergamum write: These are the words of him who has the sharp, double-edged sword.  I know where you live -- where Satan has his throne. Yet you remain true to my name.  You did not renounce your faith in me, not even in the days of Antipas, my faithful witness, who was put to death in your city -- where Satan lives.
(Revelation 2:12-13)

Also, God told John to send his text specifically to churches that are in Turkey.  Notice this in the book of Revelation:

On the Lord's Day I was in the Spirit, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet, which said: "Write on a scroll what you see and send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea."
(Revelation 1:10-11)

All seven of these churches are located in Turkey.  Everything seems to point to Turkey!
